Astro Pi: Mission Zero
September 16, 2024 – March 24, 2025

Send your code into space
Sending your own experiment to the International Space Station (ISS) has never been easier. Sit down at a computer with your friends and program an experiment that will run in space on Astro Pi (Raspberry Pi) microcomputers.

For students up to the age of 19, the competition offers a unique opportunity to conduct experiments on board the International Space Station (ISS) in Earth orbit. They will use the Astro Pi VIS and Astro Pi IR, two Astro Pi (Raspberry Pi) microcomputers located on the ISS, which are equipped with a suite of sensors that monitor the surrounding environment.

The competition is divided into two age-difficulty categories. The first is for complete beginners and will take a maximum of one hour to complete, with the task of displaying a simple image on the screen of the interceptor on board the ISS. The second is for teams of older students with programming experience and the goal is to measure the speed of the ISS. The Astro Pi Challenge is organised by ESA Education and ESERO in collaboration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Bring the daily routine of astronauts on the International Space Station to life by showing them a message and a picture with your name on it using a program you write! This challenge is suitable for complete beginners and can be completed in one to two lessons.
