Ceremonial observation of the launch of our satellite LASARsat
On behalf of the LASAR student team we would like to invite you to the launch ceremony of our satellite LASARsat, which will take place on Saturday, December 21 at 12 am at the HiLASE laser centre in Dolní Břežany near Prague.
LASARsat is a 10x10x10 cm cubesat that we have created over the last months in collaboration with our partners, mainly Spacemanic and the HiLASE centre. It carries six scientific instruments on board to help us test the basic concepts of our project. Our long-term goal is to develop a laser arm capable of precisely targeting satellites in low Earth orbit and restarting or deorbiting them with a powerful laser beam. In this way, we would like to counter the growing problem of space debris. To develop this laser arm, called LASARM, we need to test in practice the propagation of the laser through the atmosphere and the precise targeting of satellites. This is what we plan to test with LASARsat.
The launch will take place on 21 December at 12:59 p.m. EDT from the Vandenberg Space Center in California. The celebratory event at the HiLASE Centre will start well in advance, during which we will introduce our team, our partners, the project and the satellite itself. Some of our team will be on site to watch the launch and the program will include live feeds from the launch site. The event is scheduled to end around 15:00.
If you would like to join us at HiLASE and watch the start together with us, please let us know if you will be attending and if you will be accompanied by family, friends or colleagues. The event is informal and escorts are welcome.
