Moon Camp: Design a base on the Moon

10.9.2024

In the Moon Camp Challenge, students ages 6 to 19 in three age and difficulty categories are challenged to design and model a lunar base or its components using Tinkercad https://www.tinkercad.com/ or Fusion 360 software.

The Moon is the closest and so far the only space body that humans have set foot on. In order to learn more about our natural satellite, a permanently inhabited base will need to be built on the Moon, similar to the International Space Station (ISS). Which is certainly no easy task!

Would you like to be part of it? The Moon Camp Challenge offers you the opportunity! The competition is open to individuals or teams of 2 to 6 people in 3 age and difficulty categories. Apply your knowledge and creativity and send your proposal to ESA!

Moon Camp is a collaborative educational project between ESA and the Airbus Foundation in cooperation with Autodesk. It uses innovative learning technologies to challenge students to design their own moon project using 3D tools. Prepares classes for activities focused on learning design and science experiments. Teams will develop a series of scientific interdisciplinary experiments to explore the extreme environment of space and understand how astronauts might live on the moon. Later, they should design a 3D model of Moon Camp using Tinkercad software (Discovery and Explorers categories) or Fusion 360 (Pioneers category). Their design should be adapted to the lunar environment, use local resources and provide protection as well as living and working facilities for the astronauts. It also includes a description of the use of local resources, energy extraction or plant cultivation, and from this year onwards everything can be submitted in English.
