Astro Pi: Mission Space Lab
For more experienced programmers, the Space Lab Mission. The mission goal is announced at the beginning of the school year, usually in September. In the 2024/25 school year, teams are tasked with measuring the speed of the station while their code is running on a computer on the ISS. Within a maximum of three minutes, the program must take images of the Earth’s surface or cloud cover and calculate the station’s speed from the recorded changes. The analysis of the acquired images and the calculations must be performed on the Astro Pi computer on board the ISS (i.e. it is not possible to download the data and perform the analysis on the ground). The code must end by storing the measured velocity value. The winner will be the team whose result is closest to the actual value of the station’s velocity.
