The Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University has launched a new course entitled Applied and Translational Neuroscience in Space and Extreme Conditions
The course is part of the curriculum of the follow-up master’s program in Neuroscience, which was launched at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in the 2025/2026 academic year as the first of its kind in Czechia. Its aim is to familiarize students with the interdisciplinary field of space and extreme environments from the perspective of neuroscience, human factors, and translational research. It presents the specifics of these environments (especially microgravity, radiation, isolation, sensory deprivation and circadian changes, alteration of respiratory gases) and their influence on brain functions, cognition, sensory-motor integration, neuropsychology, team dynamics, and human interaction with technologies. Emphasis is placed on presenting research platforms, translational potential, and the practical application of knowledge and its transfer into clinical, rehabilitation, and occupational practice, as well as into the development of advanced technologies. In the first year of this course, experts from prominent institutions in the field, such as ESA, NASA, the University of Pennsylvania, ISAE-SUPAERO, and others, will give lectures.
